To be perfectly upfront with you, so far I only have a few legal documents to go by. And like so many potentially newsworthy events in this part of the world, it got virtually no coverage in the media whatsoever. Print, radio or television. Which is hardly surprising. Developers possessing this level of influence spend a lot of dough to keep such things out of the press. They are quite fastidious about their public images. Mr. Hui even more so than most.
However, we will continue our investigation into Kin Hui Groingate and hope to post a follow-up article as well.
Please also note, Kin Hui is suspected by some parties of being the financial muscle behind noted McMansion development fan man, Arcadia City Councilmember Sho Tay. Who, allow me to add, has not been kneed in the groin. At least not lately, and as far as we know. We continue to investigate that possibility as well. Who knows, it could be a kind of crime wave.
Here is how Kin Hui's (pronounced "Huey") LinkedIn biography reads (link). So you know just who we're talking about here. Certainly a man to be reckoned with on the local scene.
That certainly is quite an encomium. How you keep track of it all is beyond me. He must have a staff for that. Or a museum with an extremely busy curator.
But I digress. Here are several of the documents I was able to obtain by going to Pasadena and hanging around the Courthouse for a few lost hours talking to the employees. Folks who obviously wished they could be someplace else. At home reading Facebook being my first guess.
Kai Lo Hsu also required the assistance of a Public Defender. Meaning he probably doesn't have a lot of dough. Kin Hui, on the other hand, is fabulously flush. So there is an economic disparity thing going on here. We have no idea if Kin contributed in any way to this altercation, his crime scene behavior is not discussed in the few documents I was able to obtain. That could be due to certain lifestyle advantages.
There is a typo in the complaint. Kin Hui's name was initially spelled incorrectly. It does appear corrected in later documents. A second infraction was added. PC 415(2) is for Disturbing the Peace. Mr. Hsu plead no contest to that second charge. A plea bargained lesser count I guess. The actual groin kneeing itself did not result in a conviction.
In the defense attorney's declaration, it does state this allegation: That Mr. Hsu kneed Mr. Hui in the groin. As I previously suggested, no motive for this occurrence is given. Maybe they were quarreling over a particularly delectable species of fish, and there was only one in the tank at the Full House Seafood Restaurant that unfortunate day?
There are several recordings that were part of the evidence, but I was told they will need translating. These recordings are not part of the court file, either. I am attempting to get them, and if I do I will share that here with you.
